RatNews spoke with Director Mitch Clarke about the show, the cast, and his journey from BYTESized actor to Director.

Why did you choose Singin’ In The Rain Jr?
Singin’ In The Rain Jr. is specifically written for younger audiences and is a fun filled classic that is a bit different to the Disney shows that BYTESized has performed in the past. This show explores the iconic musical as it unfolds into a heart warming, comedic and show stopping musical.  It is a great show for all ages, with the classic songs from the original movie “Make ‘Em Laugh”, “Good Morning” and of course “Singin’ In The Rain”, fabulous dance routines and a storyline that  is hilariously funny, and is set in Hollywood at the time of the change from silent movies to the “talkies” – so it’s a bit of a history lesson too!

What are you looking forward to most with the show?
This show is filled with so many moments everyone will enjoy, I can’t wait for audiences to see some of the local talent that has helped put this show on, both on and off stage. After having to cancel last year, most of all I am looking forward to all of the kids’ hard work finally paying off. For some of these kids the theatre is their “everything”, they along with many others have been without it for so long, and let me tell you they are coming back with a bang.

How do you feel about the cast you’ve chosen?
Amidst our local cast of 48 are some very talented kids, with many of the cast having been in multiple BYTESized and other big shows! We have selected kids aged 8 – 18 with a huge passion for the theatre. These kids have given their everything into this show despite the recent disruptions we have had along the way. Their performance displays their efforts and hard work, and it’s something audiences do not want to miss!

You started out as an actor with BYTESized, how do you feel about moving into the director’s chair?
The idea of directing was always an interest of mine, to see a small idea in your head come to life is truly magical, there is certainly nothing else like it. I have gained a whole new appreciation for the theatre throughout the show through many eye opening opportunities that BYTESized productions fortunately has offered. Directing is definitely hard work, but seeing the cast enjoying the experience has made it all worthwhile.

We’ve heard that there may be a particular “special affect” being used for the first time ever at the Albury Entertainment Centre – can you tell us more?
Well, let’s just say that this is going to be a showstopping musical, with the chance of a shower or two. People certainly won’t want miss it!
